Burton Hutchinson, Sr. of Ethete (1929-2013)

Burton Hutchinson (Ethete, Wyo.) – Burton Hutchinson, Sr., 84, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013. He was born May 15, 1929 in Concho, Okla., the son of the late Judson Hutchinson and Josephine Iron Tyler.

Funeral Services with Veteran Rites will be held Thursday, May 23 at Wyoming Indian High School with Harrison and Arlen Shoyo officiating. An evening service will be held Wednesday at Wyoming Indian High School from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM and a wake and Native American Church service will be held at the family residence #360 Blue Sky Highway, Ethete. Interment will be in the Mission Cemetery, Ethete.

Burton was a lifelong resident of the Wind River Indian Reservation. He served in the Army and was stationed in Fort Carson in Colorado Springs and served in the Korean War. He attended Mill Creek School. He worked for CHR, was a heavy equipment operator for the BIA , served nine terms on the Northern Arapaho Business Council, served on the Wyoming Indian School Board, was a member of the Native American Church, was a spiritual advisor, chosen for prayers and cedaring at sacred sites, was invited to Camp Guernsey to speak to the soldiers, he spoke to students at the University of Wyoming, and he was a school grandpa. Hutchinson was also a WWE Wresting fan and enjoyed socializing at the casino.

He is survived by spouse; Joyce Hutchinson, daughters; Martina Teton Garcia, Melva and Mervene Brown , Nova Janis, Mary Trumbull, Casandra and Cori Duran, Diane and Francinda WallowingBull, Mary Harlan, sons; Burton Darrell Hutchinson Jr., Steve SunRhodes Sr., George Leonard, Fred WallowingBull and Thomas Goggles, adopted sons; Dickie Ortiz and Clyde Behan, sisters; Ada Brown Burgess and Arlene Brown, brothers; Delmar Duran Sr. and Felix Groesbeck Sr., adopted daughters; Maxine Trosper, Cheryl Hebah, Georgie Crawford, Suzanna Oldman, Tammy Reed, Sara Robinson, Lynette St. Clair, Lester Edmo, Molly O’Neal, Susan Nichols, Janice Jim, Lauri Tolado, Rosella Moss, Anita Currier, Francis and Loopy Blackburn, Jane Dewey and Sandy and Angela Brown, grandchildren; Maggie Rosetta, Darrell III, Alberta, Mardell and Earl Hutchinson and numerous other grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter; Becky Hutchinson, son; Sonny Hutchinson, sister; Mary Valdez, brother; Earl Hutchinson, grandparents; Cromwell and Maggie Iron and Eulla Washington Pardash, grandchildren; Kenneth John Whiteman and George Wallowing Bull IV.
